This year, a total of 27 candidates enrolled their names to contest for the seat of Khadoor Sahib in Lok Sabha Election 202, while this number was 19 in 2019 and 15 in 2009. Talking about the demographic factors of Khadoor Sahib, 35 percent of the total population are Scheduled Caste. The literacy rate of this seat is 71 percent. The total number of registered voters in this constituency is 16,60,422, including 8,72,662 males, 7,87,695 females, and 65 of the third gender. In the previous general election, the people who were eligible to vote were 16,38,842 including 8,72,662 males, 7,70,875 females, and 73 of the third gender. Khadoor Sahib from where Khalistani leader Amrit Pal Singh is leading, shares its borders with five other constituencies, Jalandhar, Amritsar, Hoshiarpur, Ferozpur, and Faridkot.

For the unversed, Khadoor Sahib underwent polls in Phase 7 of the Lok Sabha Elections 2024, on June 1, 2024. The counting of votes was scheduled to take place on June 4, 2024. The turnout of voters in the 2024 election was recorded at 61.60 percent in Khadoor Sahib constituency which has gradually dropped from 64 percent in 2019, 67 percent in 2014, and 71 percent in 2009. The last time, this seat was won by the Indian National Congress leader Jasbir Singh Gill against the runner-up of SAD candidate Bibi Jagir Kaur with a vote margin of 1,40,573. In 2014, SAD’s Ranjit Singh won this seat against INC’s Harminder Singh Gill with a margin of 1,00,569. In the Khadoor Sahib constituency, political parties have always dominated but if independent leader Amritpal Singh wins from there it will be a historical moment in the history of Khadoor Sahib.

Amritpal Singh, the chief of Waris Punjab De was arrested last year in February under the National Security Act following a massive crackdown. The independent leader from Khadoor Sahib also made headlines when a mob attacked a police station after the arrest of one of his supporters. The Election Commission of India accepted jailed Khalistani leader’s application to contest from Khadoor Sahib with the support of SAD. In the constituency, jailed Khalistani leader promised to fight the drug menace of Punjab, discharge of ex-Sikh militants from prison, and protect the Sikh identity in India. It seems that Amritpal Singh’s campaign won the trust of Khadoor Sahib as he emerged as the frontrunner of the Khadoor Sahib constituency in the Lok Sabha Election 2024. He is leading with a vote margin of 1,00,056 against Congress’s Kulbir Singh Zira.
