The early reports from Gurdaspur suggested that it was SAD’s Daljit Singh Cheema vs BJP’s Dinesh Singh Babbu but the recent reports have given some surprising updates as Indian National Congress’s Sukhjinder Randhawa has taken a pretty good lead after the recent vote count rounds. It seems that nobody had thought that the Indian National Congress’s candidate would even give a stiff fight. But he is not only giving a competition but also has challenged the opponents by taking a lead of more than 5 thousand votes.

Talking about the number of votes, the prominent candidate of Bhartiya Janta Party from Gurdaspur, Dinesh Singh Babbu secured a total of votes 31199 as of now, to remain at the second number while Congress’s Sukhjinder Randhawa has garnered a total of 36615 votes to stand at the top. However, the vote counting continues and it is also possible that the upcoming rounds may give a lead to another candidate in Gurdaspur. But it is also noteworthy that Sukhjinder Randhawa has taken a pretty good lead of 5 thousand. The final result of Gurdaspur’s Lok Sabha Election 2024, will come out soon. Gurdaspur Lok Sabha constituency is comprised of nine assembly constituencies including six in Gurdaspur and 3 in Pathankot. Speaking of voters of Gurdaspur, 25 percent of total registered voters, or 393197 voters are of Scheduled Caste. It is noteworthy that the rural people of Gurdaspur dominate the electorate in this constituency as approximately 1,091,513 people or 69.4 percent of the Gurdaspur electorate are from rural areas while the Urban voters share is only 30.6% or 481,273 voters. Aam Aadmi Party which debuted in the Lok Sabha Election in 2019, could only win one seat in Punjab. From Gurdaspur, actor-turned-politician Sunny Deol won the seat while representing Bhartiya Janta Party against Sunil Jakhar with a vote margin of 77,009 votes. Gurdaspur has remained a highlighted Lok Sabha seat due to its star candidates. In 2014, veteran Bollywood actor Vinod Khanna won from there with a total of 482,255 votes.

In 2024, the prominent candidates contesting from Gurdaspur are Aam Aadmi Party’s Amansher Singh, Bhartiya Janta Party’s Dinesh Singh Babbu, Indian National Congress’s Sukhjinder Singh, BSP’s Raj Kumar, and SAD’s Daljit Singh Cheema. However, there are a number of independent candidates contesting from Gurdaspur.
