The Directorate arrested a 34-year-old lady for Priority Crime Investigation due to her fake qualifications. The lady earned over R 1.2 million working as a teacher. Ntombelanga Pretty Labane emerged in the Amersfoort Magistrate’s Court after she was charged by the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation also known as Hawks. As per the report, the local representative for the elite crime-busting unit, Captain Dineo Sekgotodi members of the Secunda-based serious commercial crime investigation on accusations of fraud arrested the lady fraud. On 1st September 2016, Labane applied for the business and accounting teacher job at Hlelimfundo Secondary School in Amersfoort. The lady submitted a CV, copies of a scheming matric certificate, a B-ED degree and SACE (SA Council for Educators) certifications to the school principal. Reportedly, the principal told the school Governing Body (SGB) about the decision taken by the school management team and the SGB also backed the decision. Sekgotodi also stated,” The management team selected Labane as a teacher, and then she was given an application document called EDU 1 to apply for the post. SGB members and the principal signed the application forms on 12 September 2016. The application was sent to the Human Resouce Persal registry section and it was delivered to the human resource provisioning section for checking. It was forwarded to the job section where it was captured and Labane was hired. The problem began for the fake qualification teacher when a whistle-blower who knew that the lady did not pass matric reported the matter to the Public Service Commission offices in Mpumalanga. The principal, circuit supervisor and district administrator were asked about a fraudulent matric certification and they said that they did not notice that it was fraudulent as they don’t have sensors to verify the validity of the documents. The Public Service Commission referred the case to the Hawks Secunda-based serious commercial crime investigation for investigation in July 2020. Later, a Hawks spokesperson clarified that Labane was not arrested as an arrest warrant was not issued. Labane falsified the matric certificate by putting the certificate number: 040 9517 7028 B which belongs to another candidate called Nozipho Ritta Ngema. During the investigation, it was found that from September 2016, Labane had biased and caused an actual and possible amount of R1,292,382 to the Department of Education.
