US Ambassador predicts Pakistan-IMF deal “within days”

ISLAMABAD: The US Ambassador to Pakistan, Donald Blome, has said that Washington fully supports Pakistan in its efforts to resume a $6.5 billion bailout program from the International Monetary Fund that has been put on hold.

Speaking to reporters at a ceremony in Islamabad on Tuesday, the ambassador said the US wants a deal between Pakistan and the IMF and is ready to work with Pakistan to help on the issue.

The IMF and Pakistan have been in talks over a stalled bailout package since late last year, with Pakistan seeking a share of $1.1bn to tackle its worsening balance of payments crisis.

Both sides have been involved in negotiations to reach an agreed package that would help Pakistan emerge from the ongoing economic turmoil.
