A seminar on endocrinology was organized by the Department of Medicine at Fatima Jinnah Medical University in Lahore.

Consultant endocrinologist Professor Shalet from the UK and senior consultant endocrinologist Dr Asad Rahim welcomed the occasion as chief guests.

Professor Shalet is an honorary consultant endocrinologist at the Christie hospital, Manchester and Emeritus Professor of Endocrinology at the University of Manchester. His main research interests are pituitary disorders and in particular abnormalities of growth hormone secretions.

Dr. graduated. Asad Rahim from the University of Leeds and obtained his MD from the University of Manchester. He is a senior consultant endocrinologist at Birmingham University Hospitals.

He is currently the leader for endocrinology. His main research is on pituitary, adrenal, and metabolic bone disorders.

Fatima Jinnah Medical University VC Prof. Khalid Masood Gondal along with the faculty members of the University warmly welcomed the distinguished guests.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Shamsa Humayun, Registrar Professor Muhammad Nadeem, Deans Prof. Muniza Qayyum, Prof. Munazza Iqbal, Director Quality Improvement Cell Prof. Bilquis Shabbir, Prof. Muhammad Naeem Afzal, Prof. Bilqees Akhtar, Prof. Khadija Irfan, Dr. Bilal Azim Butt, faculty members and a large number of students participated. Professor Khalid Masood Gondal thanked the visiting dignitaries.

He shared his university achievements with the participants, saying that Fatima Jinnah Medical University is one of the few institutions where second fellowship programs called Endocrinology and Rheumatology Programs are approved.

He said that the Overseas Rotation Program for Postgraduate Residents had also been started. He expressed his gratitude to Professor Bilquis Shabbir, Professor Muhammad Naeem Afzal and Dr. Bilal Azeem Butt.

Dr. Asad Rahim detailed brief on primary hyperparathyroidism and vitamin-D deficiency and its dangers. He added that vitamin D deficiency is more common in women.

Professor Shalit gave a detailed briefing on growth hormone deficiency in adults.

Medals and certificates were distributed to the students who secured positions in the poster competition organized by the director of the ORIC Department, Dr Azra Mehmood. Tehniyat Iqbal of MBBS Final Year got the first position followed by Umira Ahmed and Arij Fatima of MBBS Final Year.
