In France, the amount of waste on the streets of Paris has reached 10,000 tons due to a strike by garbage collection workers. Officials say that all efforts to get the workers on strike back to work have been futile.

The amount of rubbish on the streets increased by 7600 tonnes earlier in the week. Home Secretary Gerald Darmanian had announced that strikers would be forced back to work under emergency powers designed to protect essential services, but the government has so far failed to do so.
