A dharna movement is going on in front of Vitya tehsil office regarding payment of arrears of Yashwant Cooperative sugar factory workers. The Sangli District Central Cooperative Bank auctioned the factory in 2012 to recover the Yashwant Cooperative Sugar Factory loan and clear its debt. At that time, more than a thousand sugar workers are owed a total of Rs. 8 crore 28 lakh from the district bank from the money received from this auction. Zilla Bank has been using the money of these workers without interest for the last 12-20 years. These workers have been protesting since February 1 to get them back. Tuesday (14th) is the 42nd day of this movement. But in this case now Vita Tehsildar’s letter has gone viral. He demanded that Sangli District Central Bank file fraud cases against the officials concerned and the Board of Directors to recover Rs. Sugar worker Bhauso Vishnu Yadav (Kadepur district, Kadegaon district, Sangli) has made this demand. On this, Vitya Tehsildar Rishiket Shelke has raised his hands saying that this matter is under the District Deputy Registrar of the District Bank and Co-operative Department. So far, discontent has spread among the workers who hope to get justice from the tehsildars.
