New Delhi, September 21
Delhi police described it as one of the country’s largest drug shipments and said today they seized a container containing about 22 tonnes of heroin-laced licorice worth Rs 1,725 crore at the port of Nava Sheva, Mumbai.
According to the police special cell that conducted the operation, this was one of the largest heroin seizures.
“The value of the heroin seized was approximately Rs 1,725 crore. The container was transported to Delhi. This seizure shows how drug terror is affecting our country and international actors are using different methods to bring drugs into our country,” said HGS Dhaliwal, Special CP.
It’s worth remembering that this massive drug shipment comes exactly one year after the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) made the largest contraband seizure in September 2021 in the country’s history by locating a contraband shipment weighing 3,000kg and worth from Rs 21,000 crore at Mundra Port in Gujarat.
The DRI had seized the heroin hidden in a shipment of semi-processed talc stone between 17 and 19 September 2021 at the Port of Mundra’s container shipping station.
