PhD is not mandatory for assistant professorships in universities: UGC ChairNews WAALI

Hyderabad: Chairman, University Grants Commission (UGC) Prof M Jagadesh Kumar on Friday said that PhD is not mandatory for recruitment to the posts of Assistant Professors in universities and colleges and qualification in the UGC National Eligibility Test (NET) would be sufficient.

As reported by telangana today, UGC Chairman inaugurated the newly constructed UGC-HRDC building on Osmania University (OU) campus on Friday. He said that a one-nation data portal is being developed, which will include all UGC guidelines and other details.

UGC shared the update through the official Twitter handle, stating, “PhD is not mandatory for Assistant Professor posts in universities: UGC Chairman.”

Telangana State Council of Higher Education Chairman Prof R Limbadri said that the new building is a great addition to the existing infrastructure in the Open University and would contribute a lot to the teaching fraternity in higher education across the country.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor D Ravinder spoke about the University’s initiatives and progress and said that 50 percent of the administrative posts have been earmarked for women faculty members.
