Director SS Rajamouli’s RRR made history Monday morning as she won the Academy Award for Best Original Song. Composed by MM Keeravani and sung by Kaala Bhairava and Rahul Sipligunj, “Naatu Naatu” was the first song from an Indian film to win the honour. In his speech, Keeravani sang an ode to Rajamouli and India.
Images of Rajamouli and the RRR team reacting to the win have been shared online. “No words can describe this surreal moment,” the film’s official Twitter account posted. A video shows Rajamouli jumping to his feet as RRR’s name is announced as the winner by presenters Janelle Monae and Kate Hudson. On Instagram, RRR cast member Alia Bhatt celebrated the win, while fellow cast member Ajay Devgn congratulated the RRR teams and the Best Documentary winner The Elephant Whisperers on Twitter.

It was “Naatu Naatu”. perform at the ceremony by Bhairava and Sipligunj. The performance was accompanied by dancers and was introduced by Deepika Padukone. The song was a strong favorite to win, having won honors in several previous awards. In fact, RRR was also considered a contender for Best Picture, but ultimately failed to make the cut. It was also shut out of the Best International Feature race, when the Film Federation of India chose Chhello Show as India’s representative instead.
