According to the reports, the 19-year-old migrant boy was driving a scooter in the wrong way on a one-way road when police officers Christopher Abreu and Richard Yarussosho him in East Elmhurst. Bernardo Raul Castro Mata was arrested and presented in the Queens County Criminal Court on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, as he was facing charges in connection with the shooting of two police officers of NYPD. When Bernardo Raul Castro Mata was taken to the courtroom, his right hand was shackled to the wheelchair.

The prosecution said that Bernardo Raul Castro Mata was shot by NYPD police officers after he shot two officers while driving a scooter wrong-way.
