Kochi, Mar 14 () UAE billionaire businessman MA Yusuff Ali finally broke his silence on Tuesday after his name surfaced in the alleged Life Mission bribery case.
“It’s fairly common when someone does something for the poor and weaker sections of society, their names will be discussed and I’m not going to worry because of that,” said Ali.
His name came to light after the chat messages between Swapna Suresh and M.Sivasankar, former chief secretary to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who is now jailed, came out.
The bribery case relates to Vijayan’s pet project – a Life Mission apartment project for the weaker sections of the society.
The Wadakkanchery project in Trissur district is the subject of controversy, and the work has come to a halt after the bribery case came to light.
The money for the project came from a charitable organization in the United Arab Emirates – Red Crescent – and Swapna had claimed that huge commission money changed hands in the project. He made the allegations after the builder of the project – Santhosh Eapen – was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate.
Ali’s name came to light after it emerged that he was also part of the discussion about the project. He responded after reports emerged and said he was not afraid of such reports.
A section of the online media has reported that the ED served a notice for Ali to appear before them and when this was given to him, he said, “about it, ask those who reported the news,” Ali said.
Ali is known for his charity work.
