The owner of iconic drag revue club The Baton, Jim Flint opened up about the cause of death of renowned drag queen and trans icon Chilli Pepper. Jim Flint revealed that Chilli Pepper passed away after a courageous battle with stage four cancer. Yes, you read that right, she was diagnosed with Stage 4 Cancer. However, James Flint did not share more details about her journey of fighting cancer. He said that she thought it was clearing up but a couple of weeks ago it spread farther than expected after the doctors detected a recurrence. It seemed that Chilli Pepper had been announced as cancer-free but it re-surfaced and caused her to die untimely.

At the iconic drag revue club The Baton, Chilli Pepper reportedly performed for around 4 decades as part of the longest-running drag show in the United States. She was primarily known for being a pioneering drag figure in Chicago’s drag scene. Through her work and active participation in LGBTQ+ rights activities, she had become a powerful voice and unwavering personality, especially during the AIDS crisis in the 80s. Therefore, she was considered a trans icon by many. She was notorious for keeping her age and early life secret. During an interview with Vice in 2018, Chilli Pepper revealed that before coming to Chicago she was in Santiago.

During her teen years, she won her first impersonation contest. During the 70s, she became a local celebrity through her performances at The Baton. In 1974, she won the title of Miss Gay Chicago. Chilli Pepper scripted history by winning the first-ever Miss Continental drag pageant which is now a prestigious honor in the world of female impersonation. In her career, Chilli Pepper primarily performed at the Baton Show Lounge. Later, she engaged in activities to spread awareness for HIV/AIDS, becoming the first trans woman to shed light on this issue through her appearances on Phil Donahue and The Oprah Winfrey Show.
