The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday conducted a search in Jammu and Kashmir’s Srinagar in connection with the Kerala ISIS module case, the agency said.

In 2021, the NIA initiated investigations into the alleged anti-national activities of Mohammed Ameen alias Abu Yahya, who had been running various ISIS propaganda channels on various social media platforms such as Telegram, Hoop and Instagram.

“Through these channels, he was propagating the violent Jihadi ideologies of ISIS and he was radicalizing and recruiting members to this ISIS module. He and his associates had even identified certain individuals for targeted killing. They had also made plans to undertake ‘Hijrah’ to Jammu and Kashmir for participating in terrorist acts and raised money from various sources for this journey,” said the NIA spokesperson.

During the investigation, it was found that Ameen was in contact with one Deepthi Marla from Kerala, a “Muslim convert” who married Anas Abdul Rahiman from Mangalore.

In 2015, she had gone to Dubai to pursue studies where she met Mizha Siddeeque and both women developed an interest towards ISIS. In 2019, they tried to make ‘Hijrah’ to Khorasan and reached Tehran. Upon arrival in the Iranian capital, their connection with ISIS operatives in Khorasan could not be established,” the spokesman said.

“The two returned to India, and Deepthi contacted Ameen, Obaid Hamid Matta, Madesh Shankar alias Abdullah and others and made plans to undertake ‘Hijrah’ to ISIS-administered territory. In January 2020, he went to Srinagar to meet Obaid to plan ‘Hijrah’ and stayed there for a week. One of the common contacts between Deepthi and Obaid was Uzair Azhar Bhat, who is suspected to be involved in the conspiracy,” the NIA said.

“On Monday, the NIA conducted a search at Bhat’s house in Karfali Mohalla in Srinagar and seized digital devices,” the spokesperson said.
