A couple hailing from Maryland reportedly has been declared dead while performing Hajj in Saudi Arabia. On Sunday, June 23, 2024, the authorities of Saudi Arabia announced that over 1300 people have died in Saudi Arabia due to extreme heat and heat waves. Unfortunately, the Maryland couple was among the 1300 people who succumbed to heat waves during the sacred journey or Hajj pilgrimage. The news of Alhaji Alieu Dausy and Haja Isatu Wurie’s unfortunate demise was also acknowledged by US Senate candidate Angela Alsobrooks in a Twitter post where Angela Alsobrooks expressed profound sadness and shed light on the couple’s involvement in their community. The senate candidate stated that Haja Isatu Wurie was an active member of the community and she was also involved in several organizations to make transformational impacts that were felt not only locally but also internationally. The spokesperson of US Senate candidate Angela Alsobrooks confirmed that Haja Isatu Wurie was a volunteer.

Speaking about Alhaji Alieu Dausy and Haja Isatu Wurie, they were residents of Bowie, Maryland, and they also have a daughter named Saida Wurie who revealed that her parents had planned for Hajj pilgrimage for years and always saved money to go to Mecca by spending approximately $11,500 each or $23000 total but still, it was not enough for them to get proper preparation and proper documents. Saida Wurie called it a nightmare experience of the Hajj pilgrimage.

As per the reports, the Maryland couple, Alhaji Alieu Dausy and Haja Isatu Wurie were in Mecca when they suffered a heart stroke due to the temperature of more than 110 degrees Fahrenheit. The Saudi Arabia media claimed that the temperature soared as high as 125 degrees Fahrenheit. Their daughter Saida Wurie spoke to CNN and revealed her parents saved their entire lives for the Hajj pilgrimage and they could not receive proper facilities despite spending $11500 each.
