The entire community of Newfoundland and Labrador is reeling with the pain of Dr. Robert Shea’s passing, who died at the age of 60. According to the reports, Dr. Robert Shea breathed his last on Monday, May 20, 2024. Since he departed this life, the family, friends, and relatives of Dr. Robert Shea have been mourning his saddening demise. Nevertheless, people who wanted to pay him their final respects, are keen to know when will his funeral and visitation services will take place. Who Was Dr. Robert Shea?

Dr. Robert Shea is survived by his wife and three children. With their heavy hearts, his wife Rhonda, and children, John, Ryan, and Kathleen, confirmed the news of Dr. Robert Shea’s demise through a post shared on social media. However, the official post did not reveal the exact cause of death of Dr. Robert Shea. Thus, it remains unknown what happened to him or what was his official cause of death.

Robert Shea who was also known as Rob used to work in the Faculty of Education as an associate professor at Memorial University and Associate Vice President at the Fisheries and Marine Institute. Furthermore, Dr. Robert Shea also co-led the singular generational partnership with Nunavut Arctic College. Serving at the Memorial University for 30 years, he contributed significantly while in the post of Deputy Provost, Dean pro tempore of the Department of Student Affairs, and Associate Vice-President pro tempore. Speaking of Dr. Robert Shea’s educational background and history, he did a BA, BSW, M Ed from Memorial University, and Ed D from Calgary University. He always remained passionate about the education of future adults and leaders. He had extensively focused on experiential learning post-secondary student retention, leadership in college, and adult education. He actively worked for the community by serving as a Provincial Chair of the Canadian Forces Liaison Council for Newfoundland and Labrador. Recently, the late Dr. Shea also received the Meritorious Service Medal from the Governor General of Canada in honor of his work in career education. The list of honors and awards received by Rob is quite long as he was also conferred with the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers for establishing the provincial chapter of the Parkinson Foundation of Canada in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Sadly, Dr. Robert Shea’s death news preceded by his father Dermot Shea, mother Madonna, and father-in-law Francis Joy. He is survived by his brother, Doug Shea, and sisters, Marilyn Shea and Carole Charlebois, his mother-in-law, Shirley Joy, brothers-in-law, Gary Joy, Robert Joy, Noel Joy, Craig Joy, and sister-in-law Karen Legge. Many nieces, nephews, cousins, and more are dearly missing him at this time. His wife Rhonda with whom he spent 32 years of happiness will survive him forever.

Recently, Dr. Shea’s family shared the key details of the funeral and visitation services. As per the reports, the visitation service will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2024, and on Sunday, May 26, 2024, from 2 PM to 4 PM and from 7 PM to 9 PM, at Carnell’s Funeral Home located at 329 Freshwater Road. The funeral service will take place on Monday, May 27, 2024, at 11 AM at the Basilica of St. John the Baptist.
