SRINAGAR MARCH 13:- In order to have an on-site inspection of the ongoing work under the National Clean Air Program (NCAP) to improve the Air Quality Index in the Area, the Deputy Commissioner (DC), conducted Srinagar, Mohammad Aijaz Asad a quick tour of several. City areas here on Monday.
The DC who is the Chairman of the District Level Committee for NCAP along with the Chief Planning Officer, Secretary SDA, Chief Sanitation Officer, SMC, Executive Engineers R&B, Landscaping, SMC and other concerned Departments visited Panthachowk, HajHouse, Bemina, Batamaloo , SMHS crossing Kak Sarai near SMHS and other areas.
During the visit, the Deputy Commissioner took a random inspection of the construction of water wells at identified locations being implemented under the National Clean Air Program at important heavy traffic intersections including Sonwar, Hazratbal, Batmaloo, Bemina, near JVC, Kak Sarai-SMHS. Hospital crossing, main Chowk Soura, Mirza Kamil Chowk Hawal and Dalgate to reduce the environmental pollution in Srinagar City.
On the occasion, the DC was informed that over 90 percent work has been completed on installation of wells at Sonwar, Hazratbal, Batmaloo, Bemina and Kak Sarai-SMHS crossing.
Inspecting the progress of the construction of a fountain at the Kak Sarai-SMHS crossing in the Civic Park, the DC asked the SMC authorities to complete the remaining work at the earliest. He also asked them to prepare a DPR for landscaping and beautifying the park around the well under the project.
With regard to launching a plantation drive in the City to increase green cover for better Air Quality Index in the coming years, the DC asked the Executive Engineer Landscape Division to prepare a comprehensive DPR to maintain plantation/green cover in Panthachowk area by include a central plot along Pandrathen. -Atheajan axis and Panthachowk-Lasjan axis.
He also asked them to take measurements for plantations on hills in Zewan-Khonmoh areas especially in the areas affected by quarries/mining and barren patches of the mountain so that green cover is increased to the affected areas with visual effect.
The DC further asked the Agrostology officers to conduct and exercise to examine the best methodology for improving the green cover on the barren parts of the mountain.
Similarly, in Highway Bemina, the Deputy Commissioner asked the authorities to speed up the process in terms of beating and landscaping work on Highways near the Haj House property.
On the occasion, the DC was informed that a Rs 1.13 crore project has been approved for beautification / landscaping and the work will start soon.
Meanwhile, the DC also asked the concerned to take measures to restore an existing water well at the Panthachowk crossing, as well as landscaping and beautification around the well.
