Diamond Paints and Master Paints carved out contrasting victories in the Century Ventures National Open Polo Championship for the Quaid-e-Azam Gold Cup 2023 here at the Lahore Polo Club on Monday.
MIR HUZAIFA SHINES IN DIAMOND PAINT IN IMPORTANT 12-9 WIN FOR HN POLO
In the first game of the day, Diamond Paints defeated HN Polo by 12-9. Mir Huzaifa Ahmed of Diamond Paints played a great game scoring seven great goals while Chulo Corti scored four great goals and Ahmed Ali Tiwana hit one. For HN Polo, Raja Mikail Sami hit four goals while Santiago Loza hammered a hat-trick and Raja Jalal Arslan and Haider Naseem converted one goal each.
The game started with both sides playing well and scoring two goals each to make it 2-2. Diamond Paints dominated the second keeper with three goals against one from HN Polo to take a 5-3 lead. HN Polo played a better game and managed to convert three against two from Diamond Paints, who were still ahead 7-6. The entire fourth chukker saw the dominance of Diamond Paints, who fired five brilliant goals to take a healthy 12-6 lead while the fifth and final chukker was dominated by HN Polo, who converted three goals, but lost the game from 9-12.
PELAYO BERAZADI STARS IN THE MAJORS HIS 9-8 WIN OVER FG POLO
In the second match of the day, Master Paints defeated FG Polo 9-8 in a sudden death chukker. From Master Paints, Pelayo Berazadi emerged as the star of the day as he pumped in four brilliant goals while Manuel Crespo and Sufi Muhammad Haroon chipped in with a brace each and Agha Musa Ali Khan hit one goal. For FG Polo, Juan Ambroggio managed to score three goals while Ramiro Zavaleta and Mian Abbas Mukhtar scored two goals each and Saqib Khan Khakwani hit one goal.
Both teams got off to a great start as they battled back and forth to level the scores at 2-2 by the end of the first wicket. FG Polo took the lead with two back-to-back goals to take a 4-2 lead, which could not last long as Master Paints bounced back in the third Chukker with a superb brace to level the scores at 4 -4.
A thrilling fourth chukker saw both teams play well but FG Polo had a slight advantage of 7-6, as they converted three goals to Master Paints’ two. FG added another to their tally at the start of the fifth chukker to extend their lead to 8-6, but Master Paints came back strong with a great brace to level the scores at 8-8. No more goals were scored after that, and the game was then decided in the screamer of sudden death, Pelayo Berazadi smashing a winning goal to steer Master Paints to a deserved victory of 9-8.
