Chandigarh wants to win Kabaddi gold in National Games with five PKL players

With five stars from the Pro-Kabaddi League (PKL), Chandigarh’s kabaddi team is reaching the Gujarat capital with hopes of winning the men’s gold medal at the 36th National Games. The Kabaddi event is starting three days before the grand opening ceremony on 29th September. It will end on 1 October. This has been done to ensure that the players can take part in the season 9 of PKL starting from October 7. Chandigarh’s Lakhwinder Singh, who has played for U Mumba and Gujarat Giants in the PKL, feels he is part of a team that is strong in all departments. “I think we should win a gold medal in the National Games,” he said.

He also revealed that he had taken a season break from PKL to prepare for the National Games. Along with Lakhwinder, the heroes of PKL- Rinku Hari Charan, Rakesh Kumar, Rohit and Vicky Atar Singh will join Chandigarh’s squad, making it a formidable team. Lakhwinder Singh said, “Kabaddi has made a lot of progress since the introduction of PKL.” He said that the league has inspired many youngsters to take up the sport.

Rinku Hari Charan, who plays for U Mumba, however admitted that the competition in the national games will be tough. “It will be a tough fight against Punjab, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, who also have good players. We have a strong team with experienced players and we will try our best to win the gold,” he said. Eight teams from Maharashtra, Goa, Haryana, Tamil Nadu, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Services and host Gujarat will participate in the men’s kabaddi tournament. The women’s competition will feature teams from Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Punjab and host Gujarat.
