Mumbai: BJP MLA Amit Satam questioned his own government in the Legislative Assembly on Monday against the delay in completing the 582-km long Mumbai-Goa highway project. He asked the government for the deadline for the completion of this road.
Speaking aggressively on the incomplete Mumbai-Goa highway, Satam said that this is the first time that journalists have even opposed its completion. “The 780 km Mumbai-Nagpur highway was completed in just four years, so my question is why the 582 km long Mumbai-Goa highway was not completed despite the delay of nine years?” Satam asked this question in the assembly.
He criticized Public Works Minister Ravindra Chavan for not giving a final date for the completion of the road. “The minister did not mention the final date for the completion of the road. We are not interested in the technical details of the road but the completion date. The road is divided into three stages, the first is about 40 km from Palasade to Kasu. It took five years and then how will roads be completed in entire Maharashtra? The second leg is from Kasu to Indapur and the third from Indapur to Zarap. We want a gradual deadline for the highway,” he insisted.
The Minister said that the acquisition of land in the Raigad area is still incomplete and because of this the project is being delayed. However, he assured that one would be completed at the end of May and all the highway work would be completed in nine months.
This is the government’s most ambitious project which started 12 years ago. The estimated cost of the project is around Rs 11,500 crore. However, the work was delayed for various reasons and the matter went to court. Many accidents have occurred due to delays in work and the court has also expressed displeasure on this matter.
Work on the Mumbai-Goa National Highway (NH-66) section will be completed before February 2024, the Maharashtra government said in a compliance report on highway widening and improvement work submitted before the Bombay High Court. In February this year.
