Four members of Tamizhaga Vazhvurimai Katchi (TVK) were arrested on Monday for attempting to break the overhead water tank at Vengaivayal in Tamil Nadu’s Pudukkottai district. Human excrement was found in the tank that supplies drinking water to the Adi Dravidar colony last December and the incident had caused outrage across the state.

Although three months have passed since the investigation was transferred to the Crime Branch-CID, no arrests have yet been made. On Monday, urging the police to take action against the culprits, four TVK members carrying the party’s flag climbed the water tank above and tried to break it with a hammer. They also raised slogans urging the police to demolish the tank and arrest the accused.

In response to the protest, members of other communities staged a dharna accusing the Scheduled Caste residents of bringing non-residents affiliated with other political parties to hold a protest. The police quickly calmed them down and dispersed the crowd.
