According to a report published in India Today, Hindu organizations held a bicycle rally on Tuesday with a statue of Sangolli Rayanna, a 19th century military leader who fought against the East India Company. When the rally passed through a Muslim area, some miscreants pelted stones at houses and mosques.

Haveri Superintendent of Police (SP) Shivakumar said in a video statement that around 100 people came to the rally. During this, stones were being pelted at the mosque and the houses of the Muslim community.

According to India Today, Shivakumar said, ‘Police were deployed during the procession and the situation was immediately brought under control. He said a similar rally on March 9 had been ‘disrupted by some members of the Muslim community’, who might have ‘incited people’.

He said that since police officers were deployed during the procession, the stone pellets would be identified.

Communal tension is known to have arisen earlier in June 2022 due to the threat of Hindutva groups to enter and worship in a mosque located in the city of Srirangapatnam in the Mandya district of Karnataka.

Hindutva groups had claimed that the Jamia Masjid in Srirangapatna Fort was built after the demolition of the Hanuman temple. According to the Archaeological Survey of India, Persian inscriptions on the mosque say that Tipu Sultan built this mosque called Masjid-e-Ala in 1782 AD.

Let us tell you that before this incident, some Hindu activists handed over a memorandum asking the district administration to conduct a similar survey, as was done in Gyanvapi Masjid in Varanasi.
